NDIS Respite Stay Melbourne (STR Short Term Accommodation)
NDIS Respite Stay Melbourne Care Overview
Our Short Term Accommodation (STR) Respite Care stays are delivered across locations around Melbourne. They’re designed to give informal supports and carers a well-deserved break, while providing participants with a safe, supportive, and enjoyable short stay.
Our tailored Melbourne respite stays offer peace of mind—so families and carers can truly switch off and recharge—while participants can relax, reset, and enjoy time away in a supportive environment.
We offer a range of options to suit each participant’s needs, goals, budget, and support requirements.
The main focus of each respite stay is relaxation and enjoyment, with a light, personalised blend of capacity building and goal work where appropriate.
Every NDIS respite stay is carefully planned by an experienced Recovery Coach, in collaboration with the participant and (where relevant) their Support Coordinator and/or current Recovery Coach. This ensures the stay is genuinely individualised and delivers the greatest possible benefit.
We run a range of respite stays, including 1:1 and 1:2 supports. We offer strong flexibility with accommodation types, locations, and budgets, so we can tailor each stay to suit the participant’s needs and goals.
We have several respite houses across Melbourne, including Sunshine, South Yarra, Caroline Springs, St Kilda, Elsternwick, Melbourne CBD, Knox, Essendon, Ivanhoe, Oakleigh, Williamstown, Collingwood, and Epping. We also offer respite in coastal locations, including Torquay and Rosebud.
Respite requirements have recently changed. To be eligible, you generally need to be an NDIS participant who lives with or is supported by informal supports (such as family or friends).
If you’re unsure whether you meet the criteria—or you’d like help requesting respite funding—please reach out to our team. We can guide you through the process and support you to make the right request.

Respite Care Stays We Offer
Tailor-made Respite Care Stays in Melbourne
Our Respite Care stays are person-centred, because we understand every NDIS participant has different needs, interests, and support requirements.
Our experienced coaches take the time to get to know each participant so we can match people with others of similar interests and abilities where appropriate. This helps create a positive group dynamic and ensures the respite stay is tailored to the participant’s needs while supporting progress toward their goals.
All trips are designed to balance fun, capacity building, and a genuine break for both participants and informal supports. Each respite is custom designed around the participant’s interests, goals, and capacity.
Some trips may have a theme or focus, such as cooking, fishing, or other skill-based and interest-based activities.
In today’s busy and complex world, looking after our mental health has never been more important. That’s why our trips include a mental health and mindfulness focus, helping participants slow down, be present, increase self-awareness, and (where possible) leave their worries at the door.
We can also include a physical health component, designed around each participant’s ability and preferences. Activities may include yoga, tai chi, martial arts, bush walks, hydrotherapy, beach swims, or even learning to surf.
Most importantly, we focus on quality of life. We want participants to genuinely enjoy their stay, so we include things like games nights, movie nights, restaurant nights, bowling nights, and great food throughout the experience.
Our trips are staffed by compassionate, high-quality support workers who are passionate about what they do and genuinely care about helping participants feel safe, supported, and empowered.
Finally, NDIS rules have changed significantly around what activities can be paid for during respite. We aim to keep any additional expenses to a minimum and, wherever possible, include activities within the respite fees charged to your plan.

The Food Lovers NDIS Respite Break focuses on cooking and food preparation skills that participants can use in everyday life or the workplace.
Our Respite breaks run at the beginning of each month, using locally sourced organic produce and Local Guest food teachers. We will immerse the participants in beautiful food and culinary skills and endeavour to ignite their passion for food.
There are no out-of-pocket expenses other than the Respite fees charged to your plan.
General programme (subject to change):
- Day 1: Stroll on the beach with a seafood lunch, followed by an afternoon of baking using locally sourced seasonal produce. The dishes produced will be used with the evening meal.
- Day 2: A morning with one of our local chefs or producers. Depending on client capacity and plans, we will attend a Master Class or gather local ingredients followed by lunch at the respite venue. The early afternoon can be spent making our dough from scratch for the evening meal of homemade pizzas using locally sourced fresh produce. We will also spend the afternoon gathering ingredients from other suppliers.
- Day 3: Today is spent planning, sourcing, and preparing a three-course banquet for the guests' final dinner, emphasising fresh, seasonal ingredients. If there's any spare time, it can be spent engaging with each other, playing games, or walking on the beach.
- Day 4: Staff prepared breakfast for our guests to relax and enjoy together before exchanging details if desired, packing up, and heading home with a goodie bag from our expeditions to local suppliers. If time permits, we may even squeeze in one last walk on the beach to say goodbye.
