NDIS Respite Stay Melbourne (STR Short Term Accommodation)

NDIS Respite Stay Melbourne Care Overview

Our Short Term Accommodation (STR) Respite Care stays are delivered across locations around Melbourne. They’re designed to give informal supports and carers a well-deserved break, while providing participants with a safe, supportive, and enjoyable short stay.

Our tailored Melbourne respite stays offer peace of mind—so families and carers can truly switch off and recharge—while participants can relax, reset, and enjoy time away in a supportive environment.

We offer a range of options to suit each participant’s needs, goals, budget, and support requirements.

The main focus of each respite stay is relaxation and enjoyment, with a light, personalised blend of capacity building and goal work where appropriate.

Every NDIS respite stay is carefully planned by an experienced Recovery Coach, in collaboration with the participant and (where relevant) their Support Coordinator and/or current Recovery Coach. This ensures the stay is genuinely individualised and delivers the greatest possible benefit.

Luke is a passionate, caring and insightful Recovery Coach. He has lived experience and a deep understanding of how to use personal disclosure to aid the Therapeutic Relationship. Luke has a strong theoretical understand of mental ill-health that is far beyond what is required. He also has professional experience outside of mental health which I believe is equally valuable. I would highly recommend Luke to NDIS participants who want to bring about real change in their lives!
Pauline
I have been working with Luke as my recovery coach for quite some time, and I can confidently say he possesses an exceptional blend of empathy, knowledge, and practical guidance. From our very first session, Luke established a trusting and supportive environment where I feel safe to explore my challenges in recovery. He tailors our sessions to my specific needs, offering insightful perspectives and strategies. What impresses me most about Luke is his genuine commitment to my well-being, he not only provides me emotional support but also empowers me with the tools and mindset necessary to navigate difficult moments. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable recovery coach who genuinely cares about their clients' success.

I have been in ‘therapy’ for a number of years. I’ve seen therapists , social workers, support coordinators, recovery coaches and my psychologist. I absolutely love my psychologist but omg, Luke is a breath of fresh air!! I have learnt so much more from Luke than anyone else. I’ve had recovery coaches from EACH, thinking that as they work specifically with people with mental health issues, they would be the best to help me. Nope. Luke …. how can I put this without using swear words? …… Luke , blows them out of the water. He sh@*s all over them!! Because he has lived experience, it makes him even better! He knows. He understands. He gets it. Luke is personable, intelligent, thorough, enlightening, refreshing, knowledgeable, passionate to name a few adjectives. He gives me homework which makes me accountable for myself. He’s made an Excel spreadsheet with this homework and a bunch of other information and tools. Podcasts to listen to, Ted talks to watch, questionnaires to fill out. The more he learns about me, the more he helps. And sometimes it feels like he’s actually in my head! If anyone has ever gone to APARC/PARC and done their daily groups, Luke does sessions like that, but a thousand times better. He’s engaging and it makes you want to do better. I cannot recommend him highly enough. In fact I recommend that EACH and whoever else has recovery coaches, take a leaf out of Luke’s book. THIS is how you lead someone to recovery. He gets it. Everyone with mental health issues needs a ‘Luke’. I am eternally grateful to my friend for recommending him to me. And I’m so thankful that my previous coaches were so inefficient, which led me to finding Luke.

I have been working with Luke for over a year now. He has supported me through many mental health challenges including hospitalisation. He has helped me build awareness so that I can take action and expedite my recovery. He is compassionate and has a deep insight into mental health. He's also multi-talented with his three degrees, especially his degree in computer science, which allows him to also help me trouble-shoot any computer issues I have experienced, which has come as a bonus.

I’ve had to switch psychosocial recovery coach a few times to find a good one, and Luke is a good one. Luke listens, gets the supports set up, and goes the extra mile so I feel supported.
Jarrad M
Luke was able to hold space and allow me to enter into and release some traumatic childhood experiences. I highly recommend his services.

Respite Care Stays We Offer

Tailor-made Respite Care Stays in Melbourne

Our Respite Care stays are person-centred, because we understand every NDIS participant has different needs, interests, and support requirements.

Our experienced coaches take the time to get to know each participant so we can match people with others of similar interests and abilities where appropriate. This helps create a positive group dynamic and ensures the respite stay is tailored to the participant’s needs while supporting progress toward their goals.

All trips are designed to balance fun, capacity building, and a genuine break for both participants and informal supports. Each respite is custom designed around the participant’s interests, goals, and capacity.

Some trips may have a theme or focus, such as cooking, fishing, or other skill-based and interest-based activities.

In today’s busy and complex world, looking after our mental health has never been more important. That’s why our trips include a mental health and mindfulness focus, helping participants slow down, be present, increase self-awareness, and (where possible) leave their worries at the door.

We can also include a physical health component, designed around each participant’s ability and preferences. Activities may include yoga, tai chi, martial arts, bush walks, hydrotherapy, beach swims, or even learning to surf.

Most importantly, we focus on quality of life. We want participants to genuinely enjoy their stay, so we include things like games nights, movie nights, restaurant nights, bowling nights, and great food throughout the experience.

Our trips are staffed by compassionate, high-quality support workers who are passionate about what they do and genuinely care about helping participants feel safe, supported, and empowered.

Finally, NDIS rules have changed significantly around what activities can be paid for during respite. We aim to keep any additional expenses to a minimum and, wherever possible, include activities within the respite fees charged to your plan.

Frequently Asked Questions - STA Respite Care

Short-Term Accommodation Respite Care, also known as STR NDIS or STA Accommodation NDIS, is a type of short term respite care that allows both you and your carer to have a break to recharge. NDIS STR gives participants the chance to experience living away from home in a supportive environment with everything they need, for up to 14 days at a time and a maximum of 28 days per year, while carers have a break from their duties.

The price of STR Respite Care varies depending on whether the care is on a weekday, weekend or public holiday. It also varies depending on the ratio of support workers to participants. It is best to book a discovery call to discuss your needs and budget.

Respite care comes out of your Core funding and it is usually listed in this area.

Even if Respite is not specifically listed in your plan, you may still be able access it if there is funding in your plan.

Generally we need to talk to your plan manager to ensure that respite meets NDIS guidelines.

Please book a discovery call to discuss your needs and situation.

Each individual Respite stay is different. Generally we run 4 night Respite care. This can be tailored and changed to meet your needs.

Each Respite stay is different depending on the needs and preferences of the participants.  All trips will help build the capacity of the participant and provide a range of food options and fun activities.

Please book a discovery call to discuss your needs and situation.

The NDIS rules around respite have changed. Not everyone is automatically eligible now. Eligibility is largely based on whether you live with informal supports—such as family or friends—or if informal supports provide you significant care. If you’re unsure, we can assist. Reach out to us, and we’ll help you contact your plan manager to see if you’re eligible or guide you in requesting respite approval. Feel free to arrange a discovery call with us anytime!
